New trade fair: Warehousing and logistics strategic drivers of productivity
From NZ Manufacturer magazine
Momentum was on full display at a launch function celebrating the arrival of Logistics Automation New Zealand powered by CeMAT, where more than 100 industry professionals gathered to discuss the forces reshaping supply chain operations.
The event brought together CEOs and decision‑makers; both automation and robotics suppliers and integrators together with key buyers of this technology. Organisations including Beckhoff, The Warehouse Group, Fonterra, Foodstuffs, Global Express, Briscoe Group and many more.
The launch served as a forum for open discussion on the pressures accelerating automation adoption — labour shortages, rising volumes, increasing service expectations and the need for scalable, efficient operations.
Automation in action: Real‑World tours underscore practical value
Attendees were given a rare glimpse behind‑the‑scenes tour of two major automated facilities, reinforcing the real‑world application and impact of modern intralogistics systems.
Bluebird Foods (PepsiCo) hosted a tour of its Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) – backed by Dematic; demonstrating how automation boosts storage capacity, throughput and operational efficiency is achieved in a high‑volume production environment.
DHL Supply Chain opened its new NZ$90 million Auckland life sciences and healthcare facility, showcasing the Geek+ robotic system deployed by Automate-X. The visit highlighted how robotics and intelligent software are improving speed, accuracy and reliability in highly regulated supply chains.
Automation moves to mainstream
The event featured a presentation from Stephen Lakey, Chair of the Australasian Supply Chain & Logistics Association (ASCLA), who noted the industry’s readiness to accelerate adoption.
“The strong turnout and enthusiastic response highlight an industry ready to move. Events like Logistics Automation New Zealand, powered by CeMAT, are essential for helping organisations navigate the technologies, integration challenges and change management required for successful automation,” said Lakey.
“ASCLA is proud to support initiatives that connect and educate supply chain professionals.”
Keynote speaker Nick Becker, CEO of Auckland FC drew parallels between elite sport and high‑performance operations, emphasising that successful automation depends as much on culture, community engagement, leadership and execution as it does on technology.
A defining moment for New Zealand’s supply chain sector
For exhibition organisers, the launch signalled a clear shift in industry mindset. Brent Brent Spillane, Managing Director of XPO Exhibitions, said the level of engagement reflects a market actively searching for automation solutions.
“It’s time to shift the dial for logistics and supply chain performance in New Zealand. This isn’t just the launch of a new expo — it’s a movement. A movement towards greater productivity and competitiveness in a fast‑moving global marketplace,” Spillane said.
“Technology only creates value when solution providers and end users connect.”
International perspective was provided by Mike Nissen, Commercial Director of Hannover Fairs, representing CeMAT.
“Globally, intralogistics and warehouse automation are booming. CeMAT events lead the world in showcasing these technologies.
“For the first time, New Zealand businesses will be able to see and engage with these solutions locally and under one roof — without travelling to Melbourne, Sydney, Shanghai or Hannover,” Nissen said.
Industry partners welcome a new era
Event partner Automate‑X echoed the enthusiasm. Co‑Owner Jordan McFall said the launch marks a milestone for the sector.
“Finally, New Zealand has its own intralogistics expo. Kiwi businesses are showing huge interest in warehouse technology and automation, and LANZ will showcase the best the industry has to offer.”
Logistics Automation New Zealand powered by CeMAT will debut 10–11 November 2026 at the Auckland Showgrounds. Exhibitor enquiries and visitor registrations are now open at www.logisticsautomation.co.nz.
